I have loved music since I was really little. I remember singing along to Hilary Duff songs in my room thinking I was the best singer in the entire world (maybe even in the entire universe). As I have said, I come from a really musical family, so music automatically is in my blood. Although not everyone in my family can sing really well, they still have some sort of musical talent.
I have extreme stage fright when I am not on stage performing. I know that sounds strange but it is very, very true. In my mind, I think that I'm going to do horribly and that I am going to mess up the song (which has been known to happen on occasion). I psych my self out before I go on stage so much, that I often times start crying and chicken out. I think that everyone will start booing as soon as I step out on to the stage. When I get on stage though, all of that fear melts away. I remember when I was little, before I had a lot of experience with music, getting a Barbie boom-box that had a microphone for karaoke and being forced to perform for the rest of my family and being absolutely terrified.
I have tried several times to write songs but I have never really been able to fully complete a good, solid song. I have even taken a class on songwriting. The class kind of helped me in the sense that I know now what the process is. It didn't really help me in the sense that I didn't get far due to my seemingly permanent writer's block. I signed up to take the class again so lets hope it helps me this time around. Because of this I haven't really decided whether or not I want to make music my profession in the future and I am also worried that producers won't like me so they will reject me.
I can play the flute and I can sort of play the piano but not very well. I was in the school band from fourth grade all the way through eight grade which is where I learned to play the flute. I never really practiced outside of school so I wasn't the best at it as I could have been. On the piano, I was only taught what letter each key represented, so I had to teach myself how to hold my hands and how to use both hands at the same time. Since I played the flute, I already had developed hand-eye coordination and I was sort of able to play with both hands. I can only play simple songs like "Ode To Joy" (which I was first taught how to play on the flute so once I knew where the notes were on the piano I could play it) and the intro to one of my most favorite songs ever, "Pieces" by the band Red.

1. How long have you been singing and playing flute and piano?
ReplyDelete2. Have confidence in yourself, I bet you're great!
3. There might be a couple of run ons but other than that it was good!
Vanessa makes a couple of good points, especially about the confidence! If you really want music to be your career, you'll need to spend some time on it outside of school. Maybe flute isn't the best choice for you after all. Is there an instrument that you'd like to learn? Do you want to learn it so much that you won't put it down for a few years? Then that's the one for you!
ReplyDeleteYour writing is expressive and thoughtful. Your communication is clear and effective. You do a wonderful job of revealing your emotions, and music is something that clearly excites a lot of emotion within you.
A few writing tips:
1. You're using the block form of paragraphing. You should skip a line between each paragraph.
2. Use "very", "kind of", and "really" sparingly. Often the sentence is better without those words, and you're using them too often.
3. "I never really practiced outside of school so I wasn't the best at it as I could have been." Try this: I never really practiced outside of school, so I wasn't as good as I could have been. Simpler is often better!
